The laying of the first stone of the EMPIRE RIVERSIDE HOTEL on the site of the old Bavaria brewery in November 2005, signalled the start of the latest hotel development by the family-owned Fraatz Bartels Group, owner and operator of the Hotel Hafen Hamburg. Almost €67 million was invested by the private hoteliers in the spectacular hotel in the heart of Hamburg’s St. Pauli quarter, which opened its doors to Hamburg‘s visitors in November 2007.
Star architect David Chipperfield, from whose pen both the external and internal design emerged, drew his inspiration in designing the 20 floors of the EMPIRE RIVERSIDE HOTEL from the classical modernity and mythical quality of the ocean liners of the 1930s.
The result is a hotel which reflects the values and traditions of the hanseatic city of Hamburg in an unique way:
The unique lifestyle und design hotel is part of the redevelopment of the old site of the former Bavaria brewery. In November 2008, there emerged beside the hotel - in a prime location between the Reeperbahn and St. Pauli‘s Landungsbrücken – a completely new cityscape, known as the "Hafenkrone".
